Ok, this is not a new recipe, this is the one Mom made growing up and it's exactly the same as the recipe on the back of the molasses bottle. But I don't think I've ever made them before and OH MY WORD, they are SO GOOD!!! I think I prefer them to chocolate chip, now that is really saying something! They are seriously delicious and remind me of childhood, nothing specific, just memories, you know? Steve had never had them before and he really likes them too.
3/4 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 tsp baking soda
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinammon
Melt margarine. Cool. Add sugar, molasses, egg. Mix dry ingredients together and add to first mixture. Chill thoroughly. Form into one inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar and bake on greased sheet two inches apart, 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees. Yields about 4 dozen cookies.
I have a jar of molasses I used for a different recipe (that I didn't like) and was wishing I had a good molasses cookie recipe! This looks awesome. I can't wait to try them. Grandma Criddle and mom both love molasses cookies- I think that is where the memory/love of molasses comes from, especially around the holidays.
ReplyDeleteYUM! We love these too. Especially Meagan! I used to have trouble with the dough being too soft (grandmother's recipe calls for "shortening" and I was using butter). A few weeks ago I made a batch using Crisco shortening (which I never use!) and they turned out perfect.
