This is my new favorite Sunday dinner! This is a recipe from Jay's family and no one knows why it's called Swiss Steak. No one cares either because it tastes SO good!
4 Top Round Steaks
1/2 onion
2 T vegetable oil
1/2 cup flour
salt and pepper
29 oz can stewed tomatoes (must be STEWED)
1 small can tomato paste (+ same amount of water)
dried thyme
garlic powder
4 potatoes, chopped
6 carrots, chopped
Bread
Brown the onion in the vegetable oil over medium high heat. Dredge each piece of meat in the flour and place in pan on top of the onions until browned on both sides. Salt and pepper your meat. Add to the crockpot. Also add the stewed tomatoes and tomato paste. Fill up the empty can of tomato paste with water and add to the crockpot also. Add thyme and garlic powder. (This recipe doesn't have an official amount, I would guess 1 heaping Tablespoon of thyme and 1 tsp of garlic powder.) Stir ingredients. Cook on low for 5 hours. One hour before serving, add chopped carrots and potatoes. Run a spoon through the crockpot to break up the tomatoes and chunks of meat a little. Serve with yummy rolls or BREAD to dip in the extra sauce! MY NEW FAVORITE SUNDAY DINNER!
